Search from where you are until you have dated interviews or a funded lawful stay, including return fare. A job offer is not a work permit. Do not move on hope of a salary that has not been paid.

When to go, and when to wait
The go or wait test is whether you can fund the stay you actually planned, lawfully, and still keep return fare. One conservative Dubai example used below is a private hotel room, public transport, and a GDRFA job-exploration visit visa from outside the UAE. Those hotel figures are not a legal minimum and not the only lawful way to travel.
- Stay and apply remotely if you have no dated interviews, or if you cannot fund the trip you would actually take plus return fare.
- Take a bounded interview trip if a named employer has given you interview dates. Buy the return ticket first. About AED 5,500 covers seven nights in this hotel example, excluding any visa your passport still needs. A confirmed host or a cheaper lawful room can make a shorter trip cost less.
- Relocate to search if you can fund the lawful stay you actually planned, plus return fare, and your household can absorb your absence. One route is the jobseeker visit visa if you meet its conditions and it is issued. A tourist or other visit visa has its own conditions and permitted stay. In the dated private-hotel example, with AED 5,000 for the first 30 nights, cash is about AED 13,000 / 25,000 / 38,000 for 30 / 60 / 90 days. Those hotel figures are not a legal minimum. Confirmed lower-cost lawful housing or hosting can fund a shorter stay. Put a leave date in writing before you fly.
Not every UAE employer requires you to be in the country. Many interviews are by video. Local presence helps some processes. It is not a hiring law.
If an employer is already sponsoring your entry, wait for that document. Use the arrival checklist.
Three paths, one cash test
| Path | Use it when | Cash in this example | Lawful stay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remote search | No dated interviews, or you cannot fund the planned trip plus return fare | Application time, not a Dubai hotel | You remain in your current country |
| 7-night interview trip | Named interviews, return ticket bought | About AED 5,500 plus any visa | Only the stay your actual visa allows |
| Relocate to search | A funded lawful stay you actually planned | About AED 13,000 / 25,000 / 38,000 for 30 / 60 / 90 hotel days, or less with confirmed cheaper lawful housing | The stay printed on your visa; the jobseeker visa is 60, 90 or 120 days if issued; a tourist visa has its own conditions and permitted stay |
The 30, 60 and 90 day money rows do not create those stays. They are a private-hotel planning example, not a mandatory cash threshold. GDRFA Dubai publishes 60-day fees of AED 200, 90-day AED 300, plus 5% VAT, a AED 1,000 refundable guarantee, and small guarantee-service charges, for applications from outside the UAE. The federal jobseeker page uses those durations with a bachelor’s degree, the prescribed guarantee, and skill level 1 to 3 or graduation within the last two years from a university in the approved top 500.
The Rove monthly offer still lists Bur Dubai and City Centre, Deira, from AED 4,999 for September and AED 8,499 for October 2026, including the listed taxes and fees. It requires at least 30 nights. Availability and event supplements can change the price; the first 30 nights are non-refundable if you leave early.
For a trip starting now, use the price for your actual check-in and check-out dates. A 30-night stay starting late in September runs into October. If your first-month allowance rises from AED 5,000 to AED 8,500, the same 30 / 60 / 90-day scenarios become AED 16,170 / 28,445 / 40,825. The November allowance is an assumption, not a quoted November offer. See the full job-search budget and its included costs.
The seven-night example uses a chosen AED 250 per night, not the monthly offer or a confirmed booking quote. Its AED 5,500 total includes a return-flight reserve and contingency; add the inbound flight and any visa cost.
You cannot work while you look. The jobs FAQ is direct: a visit or tourist visa does not allow work. Penalties can fall on both sides.
What a job offer does, and what it does not
A signed offer records the role, pay, location and start the employer is proposing. For mainland establishments under MoHRE, the overseas work-permit service is filed by the employer. It needs the ministry job-offer form signed by both sides. It is not your permission to start tomorrow.
Starting work without a valid work permit is illegal for persons covered by the UAE labour law work-permit rule. Free-zone employers use their zone’s permit. In either case, a visit visa is not that permit.
The employment contract should match the offer you signed. Official worker-rights guidance tells you to keep the offer and to expect the contract to be consistent with it. It also states that recruitment, travel and residence-permit costs are borne by the employer. Charging recruitment fees to the worker is illegal. Searching for a job repeats that the employer pays agency fees. This is the mainland MoHRE frame. Do not treat every free zone as the same office.
Salary is not cash until it is paid. For MoHRE-registered establishments, wages for the previous month are due on the first day of each Gregorian month through the Wages Protection System. That page does not fix your first payday from a mid-month start. Read the written contract for the pay period that applies to you. Do not spend next month’s salary this week.
Probation, where used, must not exceed six months on the private-sector contract rules. Probation is not a paid trial on a visit visa.
The common test is written terms, a real employer, and a permit before work. An offer email is not a start date.
Add your inbound flight and document-preparation costs to the stay budgets above. An attested university certificate is among the documents for the jobseeker visit visa; attestation may also be needed for your work permit, depending on your case. See the certificate-attestation guide.
The stop point
Leave on the earliest of these:
- Remaining spendable cash cannot cover unpaid remaining bills, plus departure costs if the return fare is not already booked, plus contingency. Do not count prepaid hotel nights or a lodged visa guarantee again.
- The last day of your permitted stay. Check the stay allowed after entry, not just the deadline for using the visa to enter.
- The interview trip’s booked return, even if a second meeting is “likely next week”.
Do not extend a visit by overstaying. Do not count the visa guarantee or a promised first salary as spendable cash.
If savings are tight, the sensible path is remote applications plus, at most, a short trip you can already afford to reverse. Relocating to search is for people who can fund the planned stay, not a test of commitment.
