Yes, if your home is a practical walk or feeder-bus ride from a route that runs when your shift starts and ends. Start by entering the exact home and work entrances, then test your real arrival and departure times in the RTA Journey Planner. A district name alone is not enough to judge the commute.

Plan from the home and work entrances
Check the whole trip. A Metro station can be close to a neighbourhood but far from your building entrance. Use the RTA planner with your actual start point, work entrance and shift time. Then check the relevant bus or feeder timetable for the final leg, the walk between stops and entrances, and the route back after work.
Three direct station-pair examples
Use these station pairs to compare the rail connection, then check the walk or bus at each end.
| Work area to home area | Rail route | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai Healthcare City station (G28) to a home near Al Jadaf station (G29) | Green Line, one station apart | Confirm that the walk from the home and the work entrance is manageable. |
| DIFC near Financial Centre station (R24) to a home near Discovery Gardens station (R71) | Red Line, direct | Check the station entrance, your work end time and the last train in that direction. |
| Dubai Internet City station (R34) to a home near Financial Centre station (R24) | Red Line, direct | Enter the building addresses in the planner to compare the station walk and any bus connection. |
These station pairs use the RTA Metro and Tram stations map. If either end is a long walk from its station, test a bus or feeder link before choosing that home.
Check service hours and the fare for your route
RTA's current station-direction timetable gives the first and last trains, which can differ by station and route direction. For example, on the Green Line toward Creek:
| Station | Monday to Thursday and Saturday, first / last | Friday first / last | Sunday first / last |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai Healthcare City G28 | 05:07 / 23:59 | 05:07 / 00:59 | 08:07 / 23:58 |
| Al Jadaf G29 | 05:09 / 00:01 | 05:09 / 01:01 | 08:09 / 00:00 |
Use the times for your station and direction. The RTA station timetable lists first and last trains by station and direction. A shift that starts before the first train, before 08:00 on Sunday, or ends near the last train may need a closer home, a bus that actually runs then, or a taxi fallback. Recheck the timetable when travelling during holidays or special events.
Price the route, not a guess. With a Silver nol card, RTA lists AED 3 within one zone, AED 5 across two adjacent zones and AED 7.50 across more than two zones. A Metro-to-bus transfer made within 30 minutes of leaving the station is charged as one journey based on the total zones travelled. Check the fare and zones for your exact route on RTA's nol fare page.
In summer, include the exposed walk and wait in your decision. Look for shade, an air-conditioned bus shelter or a covered station link, and check the route at the time you would actually travel.
Keep a taxi budget for occasional trips
Plan for occasional taxis. For example, take four return days a month, or eight one-way rides of 10 km each. For a daytime street-hail taxi, RTA lists an AED 5 starting fare and Dubai Taxi lists AED 2.45 per km, so 8 x (AED 5 + 10 x AED 2.45) = AED 236.00 per month, before waiting time, tolls, detours or peak and event charges. Rates differ by taxi type and time of day, so check the live fare estimate before you ride. See the RTA taxi fare page, Dubai Taxi Company's tariff and RTA taxi service details.
Use the Dubai cost-of-living guide to budget regular transport alongside housing. The monthly or annual rent guide explains how to compare payment plans and registration before you commit, and renting directly in Dubai shows landlords that let homes without a broker.
